About the Collection
The Doll Collection provides a voyeuristic yet ambivalent glimpse into the lives of two dolls. Both dolls are nude, with ruby red lips, wide blue eyes and extravagant hairstyles. Their delicate, upturned smiles and profoundly innocent expressions make the effect of seeing them exposed in public places at once humorous and chilling. Some shots show the girls engaging in silly, girlish fun -- doing the splits in a field of green grass, a day at the beach Ð while others are explicit in their brutality. The signature image, for example, depicts the brunette face down in a pool of aquamarine water, her blonde friend floating face-up beside her.

About the Artist
Julia Gomelsky is a designer/photographer based in Santa Monica, California.

Born in St. Petersburg, Russia, back when it was still called Leningrad, Julia emigrated to the U.S. in 1978 along with her parents and twin sister, Victoria. She discovered her interest in photography and visual arts in high school and attended San Francisco State University, graduating in 2000 with a degree in Industrial Design (with an emphasis in graphic design).

After working as a web designer in San Francisco and Los Angeles, Julia became Art Director for a Hollywood-based entertainment company. Her minimalist style is characterized by high contrast images that celebrate the mystery and mood of black and white film. She is particularly drawn to entrances and doorways but her body of work also includes portraiture, landscape and travel photography.

Julia's work has been shown as part of The Tasting Series in San Francisco for the past three years.
